NZ Performance Tuning

We can now custom remap the ECU from the Mazda RX8 running the 13B-MSP engine. The engine comes in a few variants including 192 BHP, 232 BHP and 250BHP.

Today we finsihed off an Audi S4 (B5 chassis), the car runs a 2.7T twin turbo V6 engine.

Over the weekend we had a world first, a Hino 500, FC1018, 180bhp under powered for its work load. It has a new lease on life and has had a dramatic improvement in horsepower, torque and driveability.

There is a age old debate to what tuning solution is best for your vehicle

There are 2 common ways of tuning your car,truck or tractor.

ECU Remap

This is a full change of the factory engine software, many things can be changed such as torque limiters, smoke limiters, rev limits, timing, boost, fueling and much much more. The ECU still has control over the engine parameters at all times. When the vehicle’s own original software is modified, we can control exactly what areas we want to , not just switch to a higher setting not knowing what the actual setting equates to.

Tuning Boxes (Some times called Tuning Box, ECU Chip, Diesel Chip, Tuning chip, Diesel Power Chips, Diesel performance module) are certainly not the preferred choice of NZ Performance Tuning.

Some companies refer to this as a chip when it is not. These are interceptor boxes which modify signals going to the ecu. The fundimentals of a these boxes can be  quite crude and simple. Theycan  lie to the ECU via the fuel railpressure sensor  and sometimes boost sensors so that the ECU ups fuelling and/or boost. The potential danger here is that the ecu thinks it is doing the correct job when in fact it may not be. Suppliers will tell you that the ecu is working inside its normal parameters and indeed the ecu thinks it is, but due to the altered signals it receives, it may in fact be doing damage to the engine and drive train.

We at NZ Performance Tuning prefer the use of full ECU remaps rather than  using  boxes  to fool the ECU, we want to give our customers peace of mind and longevity of their engines. We have full warranty backing to cover all our work, not just a ‘you can take it off and no one will know’ attitude.

 Most of these boxes are available cheaply over the internet simply by googling ‘tuning box, diesel box etc’.

A common failure on Audi and Volkswagen turbo cars are the diverter valves, repeated movement of the diaphragm leads to tears or complete perishing of the rubber diaphragm.

The R36 is a understated car from factory, adding a Supersprint exhaust and some new ecu software makes them how they should have come from the factory.

Gains from ECU remap + 22 BHP and +35 NM of torque.

NZ Performance Tuning tune all Range Rover models including the 4.4 and 3.6 Range Rover TDV8 and TD6 diesel engine tuning, and the older 4.2 supercharged Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. The 5.0 Range Rover tunes very well releasing around an additional 50bhp.

We have a full range of upgrades for the Audi RS4 (B7 model) including custom remaps, full exhaust systems and superchargers.

Gains from remap alone are + 30 HP and + 45 NM of torque, customers also report smoother power through the rev range.

Exhaust wise we can supply Milltek or Supersprint exhausts. The most popular system has been the Milltek non resonated with exhaust valves. The valves allow you to tone down the car when required(aka keep the wife happy!)

The W12 is a highly tunable 12 cylinder engine shared with Volkswagen  and Audi. We are able to tune Bentleys via the OBDII diagnostic port. All tunes are custom for each car and customers use, if its all out power or fuel economy you are after we can help!
